How to convert a WhatsApp chat to PDF

1. In WhatsApp, open the chat, tap the contact or group name, then choose Export chat. Pick “Without media” for a small .txt, or “Attach media” for a .zip that includes photos. (Detailed steps for iPhone and Android.)
2. Save the file somewhere you can find it: Files on iPhone, Downloads on Android, or email it to yourself.
3. Open chattoevidence.com and drop the .txt or .zip onto the page, or tap “Choose file”. Parsing happens on your device; a 20,000-message chat takes a few seconds.
4. Check the preview. If dates look swapped (day and month), flip the date-order toggle. Rename participants if you want “+1 647…” to read as a real name.

What the PDF looks like

The first page is a cover: the chat title, participants, the date range covered, the number of messages, and when and how the transcript was generated. Then the transcript itself, one message per row, with the exact timestamp on the left, the sender’s name in bold, and the text. Each new day gets a separator line so a reader can follow the passage of time — that matters when you are showing a relationship or a sequence of events.

Every page carries a footer with the participants and “Page X of Y”, so a stapled or scanned copy can’t silently lose pages. With the Case Pass, a final certification page records the SHA-256 fingerprint of the original export file, which lets anyone confirm later that the transcript was produced from that exact file.

Why not just screenshot the chat?

Screenshots work for a handful of messages. For anything longer they become a problem: dozens of images with no page numbers, timestamps hidden behind “Today” and “Yesterday”, no way to search, and reviewers who have to zoom into a phone-sized picture. Immigration officers and court clerks routinely ask for a printed transcript instead.

An export-based PDF preserves the full timestamp for every message, keeps the order intact and can be searched, printed and paginated like any other document. It is also far smaller than hundreds of PNGs.

Languages, emoji and mixed scripts

Many chats switch between English and Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Arabic, Tamil, Chinese or Portuguese in the same line, with emoji everywhere. Most PDF tools print those as empty boxes. Photos and media

If you export with media, WhatsApp gives you a .zip that includes the .txt and every photo, voice note and document. Drop the whole .zip in. Free previews show a placeholder such as “[Image: IMG-20240314-WA0007.jpg]” in place of each attachment, so the reader knows something was sent. Privacy: why in-browser matters

A chat with a partner, a landlord or a colleague is about as private as data gets. Sending it to a random website’s server to be converted is a real risk — you have no idea where it is stored or for how long. This tool has no upload endpoint for chat files. The parsing and PDF generation run as JavaScript in your tab; the only network requests are for open-source font files. You can load the page, switch to airplane mode and still generate the PDF.
